CANADIAN SKIES

This year’s CNE airshow lineup is proudly Canadian, with the majority of performers for the Canadian International Air Show (CIAS) representing homegrown talent and aircraft.

A few international acts, including a U.S. F-35 demonstration and the iconic P-51 Mustang, will add some extra flair to the skies.

All information detailed in this article is from the CIAS website.

Every summer, the Canadian National Exhibition closes with one of Toronto’s most iconic traditions — the CNE Airshow. The roar of engines over Lake Ontario draws thousands of spectators to the waterfront, and 2025 is no different.

This year’s lineup leans heavily Canadian, with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) once again taking center stage. Fans can expect to see the legendary Snowbirds, the CF-18 Demonstration Team, F-35 Demonstration Team, and patrol aircraft like the CP-140 Aurora and CH-146 Griffon helicopter. Civilian Canadian talent, including the Northern Stars Pitts Team, Trevor Rafferty in the Christen Eagle, and Luke Penner flying the Extra 330SC, add aerobatic flair to the mix.

But it won’t be exclusively Canadian skies. The U.S. is bringing some muscle of its own, with the F-35 Demonstration Team showing off the cutting-edge stealth fighter, and Marco Rusconi’s P-51 Mustang adding a touch of World War II history.

Other highlights include vintage and classic acts like the Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation’s Fleet Cornell and Dan Fortin’s Nanchang CJ6, plus the daredevil wingwalking performance of Mike and Samantha Tryggvason — always a crowd favorite.

Unfortunately, not every scheduled performer made the final list. The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources’ CL-415 Water Bomber had to be cancelled according to the CIAS website. However, there are reports that the CL-415 has been spotted near Exhibition Place — but according to the CIAS website, the Water Bomber is yet to take to the skies.

As the CIAS 2025 takes to the skies over Toronto for the final day this Labour Day, remember that the Snowbirds that fly over your home are more than just an engineering spectacle — they are Canada’s heritage, national pride, and history in motion. Whether you’re by the Lakeshore to watch the coordinated talent of the weaving Snowbirds, or the roaring F-35s breaking through the clouds, know that the CIAS remains a tradition that unites hundreds of thousands of Canadians every year.
